JASON’S STORY

This was Jason’s second year attending Kentucky Summer Get Away and he really didn’t want to be there. Jason has Autism. Finding out that Jason had brought his camera with him, one of the staff suggested Jason help in taking pictures.

Just this little suggestion had an incredible impact on this young man. His total attitude and personality changed and he had a blast the rest of the week. Can you imagine the impact this little bit of encouragement had on this young man? Making not only this week special, but also positively enriching his life.

WORKING TOGETHER

The important connectivity between programs offered through Special Touch Ministry is not talked about much. None the less, it is crucial to our ability to fulfill the vision to ease and enrich the lives of people impacted by disability. This story highlights the connectivity between our Summer Get Away program and our Chapters. You see Ben, Roger and Lori are all part of BOTH, in Florida.

I want to let Special Touch Ministry know how thankful I am. Being from South Georgia I only get to attend the Special Touch First Coast Chapter in Jacksonville Florida from time to time. Roger McCall, a good friend, heads up this chapter. Last year, another dear friend in our chapter, Lori Bullington, donated one of her wheelchairs to me because it would recline back.

The chair had been sitting for some time and needed some work. So the chapter came together and had the work done. They presented it to me last December at their Chapter Christmas meeting. After getting it home I could not get it to hold a charge. The batteries were bad. Someone donated money to the chapter for new batteries. A good friend who works here in Georgia, Leslie Welch, helped get the chair up and running.

The most remarkable thing is that all this took place over the Christmas Holidays. My Dad was very ill and spent time in the hospital and nursing home. It was not looking like our family would have a very good Christmas. Plus, I ended up in the hospital myself with pneumonia. However, God knew the circumstances that would take place around our lives during the Christmas of 2010. Because of Special Touch and the programs they offer I had a Special Christmas last year. Thanks to all who were involved.
