Position Gender Identity

Position on: Transgenderism, Transsexuality, Gender Identity and Homosexuality as adopted by the Special Touch Ministry, Inc. Board of Directors

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of [the ministry].

According to Scripture, when God created human beings, He created them “male and female” and blessed their marital union (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:20-25). Later authors of Scripture interpreted this twofold act of creation and blessing to entail moral norms such as the mutual cultivation of intimacy between husband and wife and the prohibition of sexual immorality and divorce (c.f., Matthew 19:4-9; Mark 105-12; 1 Corinthians 7:12-20; Hebrew 13:4). The prophet Moses, Jesus the Messiah, and the apostle Paul are united in common witness to the goodness of humanity’s biological complementarity and the moral norms that should govern male-female sexual behavior.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, cohabitation, homosexual behavior, rejection of one’s biological sex, or use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10). We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11).

Recent decades have witnessed the steady erosion of biblical moral norms governing sexual behavior. As these norms regarding, among others, non-marital sexual intercourse, homosexual activity, marital fidelity, procreation, and divorce have given way in the broader culture to more permissive understanding, new, more fundamental challenges have emerged to the very notion of biological complementarianism itself. This “transgender moment”, as it has been called – in which a person can select a gender identity at variance with the biological sex – requires a biblical and theological appraisal.

Our policy reflects our heartfelt beliefs. The policy is not intended to exclude anyone. However, to uphold our standards, in keeping with the beliefs of the corporation, modified housing arrangements for guests identifying as transgender and displaying that lifestyle will be made. If the campgrounds, cannot accommodate this, off-grounds housing will have to be secured. The Guest with transgenderism, trans-sexuality, gender identity or homosexual identity must provide their own caregiver, as the corporation will not provide a volunteer caregiver to the transgender individual since it would violate our beliefs and standards.

If in the process of registering, as a Guest or Staff, for a corporate-sponsored event, discrepancies were found in the application that would affect the care or accommodations of other participants, the dismissal of the individual would be necessary and immediate. Additionally, since our mission is to work with people who have intellectual and or physical disabilities, we will not tolerate any persuasive language or actions that would confuse our vulnerable population, and would also end in immediate dismissal from the program.
