How to Qualify for FREE MATTER FOR THE BLIND Shipping

If you can't read standard print due to blindness or a physical disability, some items can be mailed to you for free. The USPS requires proof of eligibility for this service. Here's how to qualify through STM:

Get proof of your eligibility.

You can do this in one of two ways:

Option A: A letter from a qualified professional.

Get a letter from your doctor, eye doctor, registered nurse, therapists, welfare agency staff, or Professional staff of hospitals, institutions, and public or private welfare agencies, such as an educator, social worker, case worker, counselor, rehabilitation teacher, certified reading specialist, school psychologist, superintendent, or librarian. In the absence of any of these, certification may be made by professional librarians or by any person whose competence under specific circumstances is acceptable to the Library of Congress.

Option B: Proof of NLS participation.

If you're already a certified participant in the Library of Congress's National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), you can provide us with proof of your NLS certification.

Once you have your eligibility document, please upload it using the link below. This letter should state that you're eligible and include the contact information of the person who wrote it. Ensure your document is in a clearly legible .jpg or .pdf format.
